Nasal washes, aid in case of sinusitis

Sinusitis can occur following a common cold, in this case, it usually has a viral origin, although bacterial superinfections can occur. It is an inflammation of the nasal mucous and paranasal sinuses, anatomical cavities connected to the nasal fossa located in the thickness of the bones of the face around the eyes, nose, and cheeks. In the case of sinusitis, the normal drainage of the mucus is prevented by the swelling of the inflamed mucous membranes which obstructs the openings of the breasts. More frequent in the adult, where the paranasal sinuses have reached a complete development, sinusitis manifests itself with difficulty in breathing from the nose, malaise, fever, headache, tearing, pain in the back of the eyes and other symptoms, such as nasal secretions dense accumulated in the retro nasal space and difficult to eliminate. It should also be remembered that particular anatomical conformations – such as deviation of the nasal septum or turbinate hypertrophy – can lead to sinusitis, due to the reduced passage of air which gives rise to stagnation of secretions with the consequent risk of developing an infection.

The hypertonic solution is a valid aid

In the presence of sinusitis – which in most cases, as already mentioned, is of viral origin and does not require antibiotic therapy – preparations that combine the decongestant action with the mucolytic one represents valid support. The cleaning of the nose by washing, in fact, favors the physiological secretive function of the mucous membranes which removes foreign bodies, irritating factors, viruses or bacteria. Acetylcysteine, in particular, thins the secretions that stagnate in the upper respiratory tract, while the hypertonic solution, decongesting the mucous membranes, facilitates nasal breathing. The products in vials for aerosol administration or nasal showers are particularly comfortable in these cases
